WJHG, April 13, 2026 - Tax Day is almost here, and United Way of Northwest Florida’s VITA is here to ease the stress and financial burden.
Gina Littleton, the president and CEO of United Way of Northwest Florida, said if you have yet to file, you need to act.
“If you have not done your taxes yet, like I said, you either need to file an extension or go ahead and get those done before Wednesday,” Littleton told NewsChannel7.
VITA will be open Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at A.D. Harris Learning Village. Littleton advises those needing to file need to arrive early.
“Yes, there are definitely lines,” Littleton said before continuing. “Folks wait until the last minute. We’re all guilty of that, and so it gets very busy as we get closer to that Wednesday deadline. So, the earlier you get there, the better.”
The Bay County site will be open until Wednesday, but for those who choose to file themselves there is an option for that, Littleton assures.
“If you just want to do them at home on your own, you can go to myfreetaxes.com, and that will be free of charge for you, just like if you came into VITA. Of course, you’re not going to have that preparer with you, but if you feel comfortable doing that on your own, go to myfreetaxes.com,” Littleton said.
VITA is available to anyone who makes $70,000 or less. Littleton encourages those who come out for assistance to say thank you to the volunteers, because it goes a long way.
“If you do go to those sites, just join us in saying thank you to those volunteers for what has been a really incredible season,” Littleton said.
VITA will be recruiting volunteers for next year’s tax season as early as April 16.
